Waste Minimisation Act 2008 (NZ)
From July 2009 NZ has a $10 levy on all waste disposed of in landfills. Half of the $30 million fund will be given to local government and the reminder to communities and businesses to reduce the amount of waste. Other features of the Act include mandatory and voluntary product stewardship schemes, waste reporting and a Waste Advisory Board to advise the Minister for the Environment on waste minimisation issues.
